Seniors Are An Inspiration

by michellerogers on August 8, 2009

Did you know the 2009 National Senior Olympics are currently taking place @ Stanford University? 12000 athletes will participate in the games! I don’t know what you think, but I have been inspired by the athletes who are swimming, playing basketball, involved in track, golf, bowling and other games.

Last week I met a gentleman from Detroit who was competing in the swimming events.  A few days later Mr. Michigan stopped by and updated me that he had did not place with a medal, however in my mind we was gold medalist no matter what.  Mr. Michigan is a widower, traveled out to California alone, competed and then traveled to Napa and Tahoe.  He is an inspiration to me.  He demonstrates courage,  curiosity, knowledge (we chatted about his career), a commitment to staying engaged and spontaneity.

What an honor to be surrounded by so many individuals who make a commitment to take care of themselves.  Exercise is not only good for the body, but for the mind too.  Exercise benefits us in so many ways, it creates confidence, increases strength, it promotes well  being, the experts tell us that exercise slows down the on-set of Alzheimer’s disease.

To our SENIOR ATHLETES – thank you for inspiring me and being the example that you are!
