Senior population and social security – are you ready?

by MichelleR on June 16, 2010

The 85-and-older population is expected to more than triple between 2008 and 2050 in the United States alone. This staggering statistic not only proves the growing need for elderly home care, but also the fact that thousands of families are facing the same critical decision as you. You are absolutely not alone.

My concern are too many seniors relying on future social security pay outs when they retire or are they planning for their next future?  Are we as an aging society being proactive and learning about resources and services such as home care, or senior adult programs?  I was immersed in this thought today as I was reminded of a senior client that request home care services rarely but needs daily help.

An article in the NY Times recently suggested that with the given the job situation, economic hardships that Social Security pays out more in benefits then it receives.  Are you prepared?  I welcome your thoughts and comments.  Here is the link to the article http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/25/business/economy/25social.html
