Elderly Drivers in Bay Area Get Help From Home Instead Mountain View

by MichelleR on February 17, 2011

Recently on Good Morning America they aired a story about an elderly man driving down the highway going in the wrong direction.

This story is becoming more of an issue as baby boomers age and continue to drive.    Home Instead Senior Care developed the 40/70 Rule and one of the topics we focus on with family members is having the conversation about driving.  We promote and suggest to have the conversation earlier to develop a plan. The plan should include transportation alternatives that have been vetted out. Review the plan and get agreement  so when it is time to give up the keys it is a seamless transition to a new way of traveling around.

Another reason to having alternative transportation identified is to support your loved one’s   life style.  Encouraging seniors to be active in the community helps to  avoid depression and isolation.

If you find yourself at this cross road about an older person driving and you are not sure of the next steps check out this web page for more information:

What do you think about this topic?  I would welcome your comments.
