Do you know the medications Mom/Dad consume?

Research conducted for the Home Instead Senior Care® network has revealed that many grown children don’t know all they should about their older adults’ medical histories.

A survey of future family caregivers conducted for the Home Instead Senior Care network indicates a widespread lack of knowledge including the fact that less than half (47 percent) say they know about their parents’ medical histories in case of an emergency.

It is important to keep a current list of all medications at home in a visible place and for the doctor’s review for emergency purposes.

Earlier this week we were meeting with a client and his family for additional care.  During the meeting we asked about a current list of medications and we were thrilled to see the family had a current list of medications, dosage and when to consume the medication.  The Daughter had been to see the doctor earlier in the day and was able to review the list at the appointment.  This is also critical since many elderly tend to see multiple doctors.

In closing communicate and share the information.
